VILLAGE NEWS
Students in schools across our villages are taking on the responsibility of monitoring the attendance of their classmates. The goal is to decrease absenteeism and increase enrolment. How does it work?
The attendance monitors in each class have the names bade bhai, or elder brother, and badi bhen, or big sister. They keep an eye on attendance and when students are absent for 3 days in a row, they make certain to let the teachers know.
School staff can then get in touch with the families to find out what is happening. If the importance of education can be supported in this way, it can pave the way for a better future for these children and inspire other families to send their children to school, as well.
