Bringing back the tradition

Sunday, November 19, 2017

Villagers in Devgain village in Jharkhand has recently made a waste bin, what makes this special is that its made from the bamboo with is locally available and it costs, ZERO. Weekly Amala Bharatam in the village has brought back the old tradition of bamboo made public waste bin the village. Villagers say they remember in the back old days when they had these type of waste bin in the village, as time passed by the life in the village got busy and these bamboo waste bins started disappearing. Now seeing the children along with the Amrita coordinators doing the weekly Amala Bharatam brought the old idea back.

The UNDEF representative who visited Devgain last week also appreciated this model of natural zero cost waste bin. Now the villagers are making more of these to put it in every corner with an aim to make the village ‘swatch’ and to prove ‘cleanliness is next to godliness’.
