In Indpur village, Himachal Pradesh, the district Panchayat organized a ‘clean up the grounds’ rally. Pradhan, the village head, along with the Swachh Bharat Mission (Clean India Mission) officer from the Block Office, visited the village.
Awareness of the negative environmental impact of plastic along with the importance of reducing plastic usage were the major topics. The speakers strongly encouraged people to pick up plastic found on the ground and floating along the surface of water.
“Not only does plastic have a harmful effect upon a growing crop, but it pollutes the water,” the Swachh Bharat officer explained.
As regular cleanliness ambassadors in Indpur, children and Self-Help Group women with Amrita SeRVe health worker Paramjeet participated in a walk across the village. This culminated in the clean up of a large public area.
