Cloth Bags to Replace Banned Plastic

Saroja, Kunjamol and Jyothi gathered around stitching machine while Shaji, the head of tailoring unit is training.

Women of Sadivayal Amrita Mahila Kulu self-help group completed two days of stitching training at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Coimbatore campus in Tamil Nadu. A week ago, they got their first order of 200 cloth bags from local Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) to replace singe use of plastic bags.

Sadivayal village is about one hour away from campus, so agricultural program officer Sreeni KR coordinated the daily transportation. From next few days the new Amrita center in Sadiayal is ready for the SHG women to continue with the stitching in their own village. Sadivayal Amrita Mahila Kulu got also more orders of soaps, detergents, Jeevamritam and Beejamritam natural fertilizers/ pesticides.
