Dancing for Amma
February 2019
Six girls from Nandi Kovil village in Tamil Nadu performed traditional dances at Amma’s Coimbatore program at the end of January.
The audience enjoyed a lively, energetic dance performance rigorously practiced under the guidance of Ambika Selvakumar, an Ettimadai campus nurse who teaches these young girls in the traditional manner, from teacher to student, during her free time.
Each week, Ambika also instructs the dancers in the ancient practice of the Bharatanatyam, a female dance from the temples of Tamil Nadu that expresses scriptural stories and spiritual ideas.
