Wednesday, July 24, 2019
Komalikudi, Kerala
The monsoons have started. The much needed rains are also battering the state. The Mata Amritanandamayi Math distributed necessary blankets, sheets, towels and items of clothing for the men, women and children of Komalikudy, a tribal hamlet in the district of Idukki.
The Math has built homes and toilets, dug a borewell and built a mini dam to provide water and power to the entire village of Komalikudy. The Amrita Education Centre concentrates on after school tutoring and ensures there are no dropouts. The two AmritaSREE Self-Help Groups have grown an extensive vegetable garden.
To gear up for the monsoon, Swami Jnanamritananda Puri came with a minivan containing sheets, blankets, warm clothes for the kids and women, dhotis for the men, soaps and insect repellents, Swami Jnanamritananda Puri also distributed bags to the tribal children of the Multi grade learning centre inside the hamlet.
Ammalamma, more than 100 years old was the first one to get the gift of clothes from Swami. She lives all by herself in a small hut but her two sons live nearby and look after her. She was delighted with the gifts and went back excitedly to “spread the new blanket on her cot and to cover herself up with the new sheet”, as she happily said.
