Guru Purnima is a celebration to honor the Guru and teachers.
In ancient Indian tradition it is a day to pay respect to the teacher who has taught us.
Following the tradition, in many villages all Amrita staff invited retired teachers to the event. Some places organized special pujas (rituals) dedicated to the teacher and parents. The importance of Guru Purnima was addressed and bhajans were sung. In the end, prasad (blessed sweet) was distributed.
Guru Purnima marks Veda Vyasa’s birthday. Sage Vyasa classified Vedas into four categories, wrote Upanishads and Mahabharata, which give guidance on how to lead a balanced spiritual and material life.
