Making a Beneficial Product
Friday, February 10, 2017
Amrita SeRVe is travelling throughout different villages to teach women the value of stitching reusable sanitary napkins. Our team arrived in Sarai Nurrudinpur, Uttar Pradesh where a production unit has just started.
Our goal is to first share the information about these napkins among rural women, as it is a good income generation project for them to learn. In addition, most of them cannot afford the disposable sanitary napkins which are sold in the market.
Next, as a product sold to women in urban areas, it addresses the issue of how disposable sanitary napkins are highly harmful to the environment. Their plastics take hundreds of years to decompose and are also challenging to our own bodies in terms of the lack of ventilation the material causes.
