When Amma initiated the Amrita Self-Reliant Village project (Amrita SeRVe) in 2013, She also launched many other programs which would support the work to be done in collaboration in the selected Indian villages. One of the program is Live-In-Labs; pointed to university students all over the world to enhance their degrees by researching and co-operating with commendable faculty and highly experienced ashramites, who have been working under Amma’s direct guidance for decades in Her various charitable institutions providing humanitarian aid.
Over the years, the field trips and internships organised by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Amritapuri ashram have been enormously popular.
“Amma has adopted 101 villages all over India where a lot of projects are going on to improve the standard of living. As a part of the Live-in-Labs, our university students regularly visit these villages and take part in the projects there. Amma has seen the change that has come in these youngsters. This experience has helped them to awaken compassion in their hearts,” Amma said in Her acceptance speech when University of Mysore conferred with D.Litt. Honoris Causa in March 2019.
Now, the post-COVID-19 plans for the PhD programs in the School for Sustainable Development are underway to be implemented in 21 Indian states.
