Saturday, February 9,  2019
Harirampura, Rajasthan

Both men and women are participating government offered job.

Pond construction work is taking place 1 km from the Harirampura village in Rajasthan. Employed under the MNREGA* scheme, 59 villagers from Harirampura and Shyamoli are building a small reservoir pond in the forest area.

For this project, villagers have two days of alternate jobs for 4-5 months, in which they are getting paid 200-230 rupees per day. This is an additional income source apart from agriculture, the main source of income there.

Rajasthan suffers from water scarcity. The pond will maintain water levels during the summer and provide water for animals.

*The Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) aims at enhancing the livelihood security of people in rural areas by guaranteeing hundred days of wage-employment in a financial year to a rural household whose adult members volunteer to do unskilled manual work.
