Social Equity through Digital Inclusion

Friday, November 9,  2018

Amrita CREATE has implemented various programs in the villages. For example the Amrita Awareness Ambassadors Program (AAA) spreads awareness through adolescents in schools and villages. It has impacted more than 3500 people in 21 states across the country.

The Digital Literacy Programme of Amrita CREATE has trained the Rajasthan tribal village youth in basic computing skills like word processing, using Internet and writing emails. Prineesh Nath, Amrita CREATE field officer for digital literacy, conducted six-day workshops in Sawai Madhopur district.  190 tribal students in the nearby schools also have been taught under this programme which aims to bring social equity to the tribals through digital inclusion.

The Digital Literacy course consists of hands on training in various computer programs using tablets, laptops and projectors. The classes are designed to include social and health awareness through videos. Exams are conducted and certificates distributed under this programme.

Certificates were distributed to 211 students who passed the exams successfully.

The title of  Center of Excellence in Tribal Empowerment through Digital Inclusion (Amrita CoE-TEDI) was given to Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India.
